The eyes who rest on Christ crucified,
have found the center of all things;
but the heart must follow the eyes.
If the eyes are all that rests here,
and the heart holds no sorrow;
such a soul has magnified its error.
For this soul says,
"I am of Christ Jesus,"
but without sorrow,
Christ cannot cleanse.
The soul must die unto itself,
this is the first of all works;
if it does not die,
admitting its guilt in sincerity,
then, if it take up Christ's name,
it goes unto very great destruction.
One cannot enter Heaven,
unless they weep over their sins.
They enter into Churches rejoicing,
they sing with beautiful voices;
praising God with their lips,
but their hearts rest on the world.
Unless the heart rest on Jesus,
there is no profit in praise;
and it cannot rest on him,
until it has admitted its faults.
So few are saved and spared justice;
so many, though, profess salvation.
